Fokus på.. Jose Diaz

Jose har bott i Sverige i 3 år och förstår en del svenska men för att kunna få denna intervju att verkligen flyta på och vara förståelig så kommer denna posten att vara på engelska!

José is from Gran Canaria originally and has lived in Sweden for 3 years but has worked at High Chaparral for 5 summers, and has been in both the Mexican Night Show, the Zorro Show and the Stunt Show. Throughout these shows the language has been Swedish but luckily for José he has mostly had Spanish parts that can speak all the Spanish they want without it being strange. When I ask him about his favourite show he says

-Any show involving horses and shooting, it's the one I like the most. I have enjoyed them all anyway! And I have learnt also from all of them.

He has worked before at a Western Themepark called Sioux City in Gran Canaria for 15 years so living the western life with shooting, horses and bandits is nothing new for José but learning and challenging yourself is always something he is aiming at. He says

-If you do not challenge yourself you'll never get better. You'll stay right where you are and never get anywhere.

And so it must be true, because this summer he has challenged himself massively by playing the part of Black Bart, a part with a lot of Swedish lines even though it is not Josés first or even second language! It's been a fun experience although some mistakes do happen with certain words and sounds. One of those words was in Swedish punktlighet where he instead said punglighet. Somewhat different and not suited for a childrens show perhaps!

His part is as said before Black Bart who he describes as

-He is a core leader of a gang and a ruthless, lawless, cold bloded bastard killer.

This sort of part is nothing new to José who has played many bad guys and definitely managed to make them as scary and intimidating as possible. For him it is easy to get to the scary characters as he has done it so many times, so the new challenge now would be to be good guy.

The dream at the Stunt show scene would be to be bad again

-Just to be bad, shoot, talk and die of course at the end! Riding is important also.

The bigger dream if coming to Hollywood is quite the same but different at the same time

-Any bad guy in a western or James Bond film, any actionfilm.

Stunting is something José really enjoys and knows how to do, and if he could dream up the perfect stunt it would be more important with the character than the actual stunt.

-A good fight, a good fall, with a good story also. I don't aim to do a big stunt, I aim to do a good performance and deliver my character so it's believable.

The best thing about High Chaparral for José is about learning

-You always learn, every season you always learn from people, about acting and every day is learning and living. And sharing also! It's good when other fellow workers ask you for advice to improve.

The show is quite an amazing show but if you ask José for the reason people should come see it his answer is simply

-It has everything. It has comedy, drama, action. It's a little dark also.

When High Chaparral closes what will be missed the most is definitely the routines and meeting all of the people working here. During the rest of the year José does work at the factory just next to High Chaparral, but a factory and the show is very different. There will be no acting for José in the factory unfortunately. For the moment it will have to do as he has a young son named Joel who comes to see his daddy perform as often as he can. And if working in a factory will get José more time with Joel, he will not hesitate to do it! The acting can wait, but it is still a dream to go to acting school, do castings and work with acting full-time. For now we will see him every summer in the shows and for the future anything can happen!

And to finish off he wants to say hello to his family! Also, he wants people to know one more thing

-Even though I do bad characters I'm a good person, I'm not as psycho as the characters I do.
